Lucy Liu, best known for Chicago and the Kill Bill and Charlie’s Angels franchises, has joined Shazam! Fury of the Gods as the villain Kalypso.
Kalypso is the sister of Helen Mirren’s Hespera and will serve as one of the sequel’s primary antagonists.
While Kalypso doesn’t have a one-to-one DC counterpart, she, Hespera and Rachel Zegler’s unnamed character will be presented in the film as the daughters of Atlas.
Little is know about Fury of the Gods at this time. However, Shazam!‘s Adam Brody confirmed the sequel will feature the same comedy as the original, along with more fight scenes featuring the full Marvel Family. “I’m sure there’ll be moments of real peril that you take seriously as well, but leaning into the comedy and leaning into the goofiness and the wish fulfillment of it all is a pretty natural and joyful experience,” he explained in October 2020.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars Zachary Levi as Shazam, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Marta Milans as Mama Rosa, Helen Mirren as Hespera, Lucy Liu as Kalypso and Rachel Zegler in an undisclosed role. The film arrives in theaters June 2, 2023.
